La Chouette VeilleLet with peace of mind
A local team in Vendée, for owners abroad

Your home in Vendée, watched every night while you're away.

We're a small French team based in Vendée, and we look after homes whose owners live elsewhere. La Chouette Veille (“the night owl”) reads your house's Linky meter, the smart electricity meter fitted in every French home, and checks it against your bookings and the local forecast. If something looks wrong, you hear about it the next morning, wherever you are. No equipment, no French red tape left to you.

Why a local team

You're abroad. We're here.

Owning a house in France from another country means dealing with French meters, French paperwork and a French winter from a distance. That's exactly the part we take off your hands.

We handle the French side

Linky, Enedis, consent forms: we explain every step in plain English and set everything up remotely. You never need to be in France to get started.

Your part: one online consent, about 5 minutes.

We know the Vendée winter

Storms that cut the power, heating that trips out, damp sea air, the odd hard frost inland. We built La Chouette Veille for the risks an empty house here actually faces.

In Vendée, nearly 1 home in 4 is a second home.

One contact, in English

Questions, setup, an alert you're unsure about: you deal with a real person in Vendée, by email or phone, and nothing gets lost in translation.

Pierre, +33 6 22 81 00 31

We work with owners of second homes and holiday lets, with the local conciergeries that look after them, and with families settling an estate from abroad, when a parent's home stands empty for months.

Six alerts

What the owl spots for you

Every alert arrives by email and text message with its evidence: the property's usage curve, the date and how far it strays from its usual pattern.

Empty home in use

No booking, yet the property is using power as if someone were living there.

Break-in, squatters moving in, a spare key doing the rounds.

Overstay

Check-out was due, but the property is still in use. You get dated evidence so you can act quickly.

A case French law handles poorly: evidence makes all the difference.

Frost risk

The frost-protection heating has stopped drawing power while sub-zero temperatures are forecast.

Burst pipes, water damage when it thaws.

Power cut

A tripped breaker or a long outage: nothing is drawing power, not even the fridge.

Freezer contents lost, heating off, alarm down.

Appliance left on

The empty property uses more than its usual signature, night after night.

Heating left at 22 °C, water heater stuck on.

Cost per stay

The energy used during each booking, in kWh and in euros, property by property.

To set your prices and prepare for the DPE (French energy performance certificate) required by 2034.
How it works

Up and running in three steps, without a visit

The Linky meter already measures everything. All that's needed is access to its data, with the consent of the electricity account holder.

  1. Step 1

    Enedis consent

The electricity account holder approves data access in a few clicks on their online account with Enedis, the French grid operator.

    5 minutes per property
  2. Step 2

    Calendar linked

You paste the calendar link from Airbnb, Abritel (Vrbo) or Booking.com. La Chouette Veille then knows when the property should be empty.

    1 minute per property
  3. Step 3

    Alerts every morning

After 14 days spent learning the property's signature, alerts arrive by email and text message.

The difference

Security and energy, finally in one place

Holiday let sensors listen for noise; energy tools track consumption. La Chouette Veille links both to your booking calendar, with nothing to install.

Already using a noise sensor? La Chouette Veille complements it: it covers the empty periods, the winter and energy, when a noise sensor has nothing to report.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us most

I don't live in France. Can I still use it?

Yes, that's who it's designed for. Everything is set up remotely: the holder of the house's electricity contract gives consent online on the Enedis website, and we walk you through it in English. You then get your alerts by email and text message wherever you live.

Is there really nothing to install?

With the Veille Linky plan, nothing at all. The Linky meter already measures the property's consumption; we access it through Enedis with the account holder's consent. The kit is only useful if you want real-time alerts and extra sensors (leak, temperature, door).

How quickly will I be told?

With Veille Linky, Enedis makes the previous day's data available, so you get your alerts every morning. With the Meublé connecté kit, the alert goes out within minutes.

Who has to give the Enedis consent?

The holder of the property's electricity contract, usually the owner. For conciergeries, we provide a template message to send to each owner: consent takes a few minutes on their Enedis online account.

Does it work for a long-term let?

No. In a long-term let, the tenant holds the electricity contract and lives in the property. La Chouette Veille is designed for homes that are meant to stand empty part of the time: holiday lets, second homes, estates.

Does it replace an alarm?

No. La Chouette Veille doesn't dispatch anyone and doesn't replace a monitored alarm. It tells you what's happening in your properties, with evidence, so you can decide what to do.

Can I recharge electricity to guests?

The cost per stay is a management tool for you: adjust your prices, spot an energy-hungry property, plan works ahead of the 2034 DPE (energy performance certificate) requirements. Recharging electricity to guests is regulated and often on shaky ground; check the rules before using it for billing.

Why 14 days of learning?

Every property has its own signature: fridge, hot water tank, frost protection, internet router. Two weeks let us learn what's normal for that property in that season, so we only alert you when something is genuinely out of the ordinary.
